What Is A Certified Professional Yacht Broker

Being a yacht broker requires a wide variety of skills and until 1999 there was no real certification program to credit people who became successful yacht brokers. The only proof of their skills, experience and trustworthiness was their reputation. However, in 1999 the CPYB (Certified Professional Yacht Broker) program became the performance standard for the yacht broker industry.

Earning the CPYB designation is mandatory for yacht brokers who are aiming for a successful career in this business. People who buy and sell boats are more eager to hire a professional with such credentials because they know that the broker is qualified to provide the best services.

What Is A Certified Professional Yacht Broker

The CPYB program has many requirements that a yacht broker has to meet. The person applying for the certification has to have at least three years of experience in yacht and boat sales, along with being employed in the current industry. The broker is also bound by Certified Professional Yacht Brokers Code of Ethics, which is another advantage in the eyes of the customers, since they know they can fully trust the yacht broker.

Even after becoming a certified professional yacht broker, the broker has to keep his knowledge of regulations and standards up-to-date, participate in yacht shows and be overall active in the industry of yacht and boat sales. For example, this involves participating in 30 credit hours of industry training at least every 3 years.

The Certified Professional Yacht Broker is supported by Yacht Brokers Association of America (YBAA), Florida Yacht Brokers Association (FYBA), Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA), California Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA), Boating Ontario Dealers, Gulf Coast Yacht Brokers Association (GCYBA) and British Columbia Yacht Brokers Association (BCYBA). Yacht brokers who are active members of these associations have all been certified by this program and will provide the best possible services to their customers.

If you decide to hire a yacht broker, make sure to check his credentials and if he is certified by one of the associations, you can safely leave the matters into his hands.
